TECH TIPS
Cleaning Tool
For cleaning your Arizona E-Z Fletch, we recommend a small
stainless steel brush for on the spot clean-up. For excessive
glue build up, your E-Z Fletch may be soaked in acetone.
(Acetone will have no harmful effect on the fletching tool).
Preparing Shafts
For maximum adhesion, all surfaces should be thoroughly
cleaned.
For the shaft we recommend cleaning with a white cloth
(not a paper towel) and denatured alcohol. This will also
work for cleaning your vanes. Feathers generally do
no need to be cleaned.
Top Cap
When applying top cap, DO NOT over compress cap onto
fletching arms. This may cause the feathers/vanes to
become wedged into the fletching slots.
Fletching With Feathers
It is important to note on our new style arms the fletching
groove is smaller than the feathers. The new arm is designed
to expand and accept the feather and hold it tight. With this
in mind, install the back of the feather (the end closest to
the nock) into the middle of the fletching arm. This is where
the arm is most flexible and easiest to install the feather.
Push down until the white base is seated. Slide the feather
down to the bottom of the arm while keeping the white base seated.
At this point only the back half of the feather will be in place.
Put your thumb on the back of the feather to hold it into place.
With your finger of the opposite hand, slide it up the feather
to "Zip" it into place. At this time, make sure the entire
feather is seated to the white base.
Applying The Glue
The amount of glue seems to be a problem with all fletching tools.
Most people apply too much. All that is required is a light film
between your vane and arrow shaft. Any more, the glue will be
squeezed out, leaving you with an unsightly fletch and glue all
over your fletching tool. Do a few tests on an old arrow shaft to
determine just the right amount.
Closing The Tool
After releasing the spring lock pin, which closed the arms up and
around the arrow shaft, it is sometimes necessary to apply pressure
to the arm by hand to be able to replace the top cap. We suggest
squeezing the arms in the center which will insure even
alignment of the fletching arms along the arrow shaft. At this point before
replacing the top cap, check the feather at the top of the arm to make
sure they are still in place. Sometimes the very end of the feather rolls
out of the slot.
4 Fletch Instructions
NOTE: Glue set time will vary because of climate conditions and also
the amount of glue used. You can do a few test runs to establish the set
time needed for your arrows. Feathers require substantially more set time
than plastic vanes. When making a 4 fletch use the gray arm only and fletch
one vane/feather at a time. This is the secret to making a 4 fletched arrow.
Before starting the fletching process, please insert an arrow shaft with a glued
nock into the E-Z Fletch. Make sure it is seated firmly down and on the nock
receiver. Now gently rotate the arrow counter clockwise. You can feel and
hear the receiver "click". Count the clicks and you will find there are 16.
90 Degree 4 Fletch
- Drop a vane/feather into the slot of the gray arm
-
Apply glue the full length of the vane/feather from top to bottom.
-
Insert an arrow shaft with a glued nock into the fletching tool.
-
Raise the gray arm up until it's firmly compressed against the arrow shaft.
-
Hold the gray arm against the arrow shaft tightly between your thumb and forefinger
at the very top of the fletching arm.
-
Hold until the glue has had sufficient set time to adhere the vane/feather to the
arrow shaft. If longer set time is required, use a large clothespin instead
of your fingers.
-
Pull fletching arm free of arrow and lower it all the way down.
-
Now turn the arrow shaft counter clockwise 4 clicks. Fletch another vane/feather
the same as noted above. Click 4, fletch again. When complete your vanes/feathers
will be 90 degrees apart from one another. "Click" 4-4-4-4.
75/105 Degrees
Fletch exactly the same as the 90 degree, except after fletching one vane/feather
turn the arrow shaft 3 clicks. Fletch another vane/feather, "click" 3-5-3-5.
120/60 Degrees
Fletch the same as above only "Click" 2-6-2-6.
NOTE: 120/60/ DEGREES can also be done by using the two black arms. Fletch an arrow
as though you were making a three fletch but only use vanes/feathers in the two black
arms. After fletching these two vanes/feathers, open the tool and turn the arrow
180 degrees, drop it back onto the nock receiver. Put two more vanes/feathers in the
black arms. Hand close the arms against the arrow shaft and you will notice the gray
cock arm fits between the two vanes/feathers previously fletched.
6 Fletch Flu-Flu
Fletch and arrow with three vanes/feathers, let set. Remove arrow from tool, turn
the arrow 180 degrees. Replace it down on the nock receiver. Put three more
vanes/feathers, one in each of the three arms. Glue and hand close the arms.
Replace the top locking clamp, release the locking pin at the bottom of the fletching
tool. You will note the fletching arms fit between the three vanes/feathers previously
fletched.
5 Fletch Flu-Flu
The five fletched arrow is done exactly as the 6 fletch, only just use 5 vanes/feathers,
leaving one off.
